What’s the plan, Stan?

What’s the plan, Stan?

“Am I good enough?”

Five minutes later: “No, really, am I good enough?”

I’ve got a logo, is it right? I’ve got the software, are we there yet? What are my next steps…. ggrrrrr nothing’s happening… that’s it, I will go do something else then.

I sounded like that when I started on my business journey.

This procrastination tactic could have continued ad infinitum or at least felt that way! It wasn’t until I got totally clear about what I wanted, that doors started opening for me.

Let me tell you, getting clear was no walk in the park.

I tried everything I could think of, meditation, visualisation, going on courses, speaking to people across the globe, working out what other people were doing well and I wasn’t.

To be honest, quite a few times I wanted to throw in the towel because I felt so small and useless by comparison to these giants who ‘had it all’, ‘knew it all’ and were ‘getting it all’.

Often a fog descended, thick and fast. I had several deep bouts of the Nogees (Not-Good-Enough-Ever’s). It took me years to find the antidote. Eventually I did.

Quite a few times during my search people noticed my misery, tried to help with various salves and balms. Relief was temporary. Soon enough, the dreaded Nogees raised their heads and, bam. I was, back on the floor, looking for light through the fog.

The first time I applied the antidote, there was success. However, I was so deep in the Nogee-fog, that I didn’t notice it at first. I was so tentative and scared I missed an opportunity or two.

Hind sight is twenty-twenty as they say.

It took a while before I attempted administering the antidote again. The second time, success was a tad easier and I noticed a few good opportunities open up. I walked through the open doors a little more confidently. Walking into much more exciting new worlds, and the Universe in its infinite wisdom, led me closer to my dreams.

But, well, being human and being me, I stopped taking the antidote. Everything was hunky-dory, why would I need to take any more of it?

Guess what happened next. I’ll give you a clue, it includes the words ‘fall’, ‘fog’ and ‘again’.

Oh to be human!

By this stage I was experienced enough to be learning that mistakes aren’t really mistakes. They are actually growth opportunities.

Application three of the antidote: so many doors sprung open, that as I type, I am still walking through them. I am realising just how powerful the potential is.

This is such a beautiful place to be.

I get to decide the direction I take, the timings that work for me and most excitingly, the destination. If I don’t like where I am going or get bored, I stop. I review, choose a new destination, and walk on knowing further goodies are waiting.

Much more simple, relaxing and enjoyable.

What is the antidote?

It’s called a ‘Plan’.

Having a plan is my blueprint, directions to success. A plan helps me know my destination and how to properly prepare for the journey.

I take daily action on the plan by stepping out and walking the trail. My plan is like the light through the fog, showing me the depth of the valleys and height of the mountains.

Yes, there are still the odd surprises!

When the unexpected occurs I stop and adjust the plan. I have the experience to clarify my next steps and boldly take them. I see potential unfold, inspiration abounds and manifestations take form.

The dreaded Nogees? Not seen them much! When they do poke their gnarly-noses out, I wave my plan at them.

The journey taken to get my antidote in hand, has shown me just how good enough I really am. I rarely need to ask myself that these days!
