How to: Showcase your talent

You know you have talent. The art is letting others know about you, and what you are great at… Here are five top priorities to help you play to your talents.

By play, I mean play – have fun!

Priority number one: take time out to nourish yourself.

If you are well rested, replenished and rearing to go, you will be balanced and ready shine. In any given opportunity, you will be putting your best forward. The people you meet will be seeing only the best of you.

Well worth that bubble-bath now isn’t it?

Priority number two: nurture the talents you have.

When you are clear on your talents and where you are going with them, it is easier to see where you can develop and grow further.

Think of your talents this way; as a garden.

You need to plant your seeds in the right soil, water, feed and nurture them until they grow into big beautiful flowers, fruits or vegetables!

Each seed needs that bit of TLC to make it bear the fruits of your labours. Your talents are no different.

Priority number three: allow your passions to shine.

Whatever you love doing, let that shine through every pore of you. Express your passions in everyday conversations, where appropriate of course!

Don’t leave those beautiful seeds in the shade. Get them out into the sunshine.

Let people know who you are and what you are doing. You will be surprised at how many people will both want to help and work with you.

Priority number four: find your tribe.

You can’t do it alone. Plenty of people have tried, had limited success and then worn themselves out.

When you are true to yourself, you will hear the call of your tribe. Find like-minded souls to share your inspirations and joys with. Speak with other people in your industry. Join new groups. Extend yourself!

Keep checking in with who you are, loving your talents and eventually, you will find your tribe.

Priority number five: recognise your gifts and share.

You are a talented, beautiful soul. You are filled to the brim with love. Share your gifts to the world unabashedly.

You know who you are and how you work best.

If you are shy and introverted, go on a course to help you share your gift in a way that is comfortable for you (you may meet even more of your tribe!).

If you are outgoing and extroverted, find a way to ground your gifts fully. Share them with grace (you may well extend your tribe!).

The moment you recognise your gifts, share them in a meaningful way. Your talents will shine through.

Mindset

Although talking about good thoughts, Roald Dahl could easily be talking about talents here as well: “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

Your mind set will always determine the level of your talents. Focus on what you do truly want for yourself, not the material things. Rather, focus on the joy and bliss of what your talents can do for you and the world. Do this and you will always be playing to your talents.

There will be days which are not-so-great. That is ok. Life happens!

Simply realise you are not focussed on your talented self. Be gentle and compassionate and allow yourself to refocus on what you do want. No matter how many times you stop and refocus, it’s about learning (and having fun whilst doing so)!

Like a puppy in training, you will soon get the hang of playing to your talents. And just as the puppy grows, so do your talents… and the amount of fun you have with them too.

Yes, you are talented.
